A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain.. Read on:

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia : High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills.. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

控制糖尿病的超級食物

食物的選擇對糖尿病患可謂一大考驗,選錯食物會讓血糖飆升,選對食物血糖就能控制得宜。美國糖尿病學會(ADA)嚴擬一份食物清單,於該會網站列舉10種控制糖尿病的超級食物,為此類病患提供福音。

這些「超級食物」含有纖維、鉀、健康脂肪、鎂和抗氧化劑等營養素,除了能促進健康,還有助於防止糖尿病引發的心臟病和中風等嚴重併發症,對控制糖尿病有不錯的療效。該學會醫療保健和教育會長麥克勞克林(Sue McLaughlin)尚且指出,這份清單上食物的升糖指數(血糖指數,GI)均很低,並能補充典型西方食物中普遍缺乏的重要營養素,如鈣、鉀、纖維、鎂以及維生素A、C和E。

★豆類:具有極高營養價值,不論是豆角(花豆)、黑白斑豆、白豆(海軍豆),還是黑豆。

豆類的纖維含量高,光是食用1/2杯,就能提供個人一日所需約1/3的份量。此外,它也是鎂和鉀的絕佳來源,是糖尿病患必需的營養來源。雖然它屬澱粉類植物,1/2杯豆子供給的蛋白質等同於一盎司不含飽和脂肪的肉類。

★深色綠葉蔬菜:像是菠菜和羽衣甘蘭等,這類蔬菜所含的熱量與碳水化合物都非常低。

★柑橘類的水果:葡萄柚、柳丁、檸檬、與萊姆提供身體每天所需要的維他命C與可溶性纖維。

★蕃薯:這個充滿澱粉的食物提供大量的纖維和維他命A,對視力很有幫助。與馬鈴薯相比,它有著更低的血糖指數。

★梅子類:藍苺與草莓等水果有豐富的抗氧化物、維他命群以及纖維。製作冰凍甜點時可用此類水果和無脂肪優格相互搭配。

★蕃茄:蘊涵維他命C、維他命E 和鐵等不可或缺的營養物質。

★含Omega-3脂肪酸的魚類:每週需攝取6到9盎司的魚。由於Omega-3脂肪酸有益於心臟健康,不妨選取高含量的鮭魚、長鰭金槍魚(albacore tuna)、鯖魚(mackerel)、比目魚和鲱魚(herring)。遠離裹粉的魚排與油炸的魚。

★全麥:珍珠麥(pearled barley)與燕麥均富含纖維、鉀、鎂、鉻、Omega-3脂肪酸與葉酸。其中的胚芽與糠是營養價值最高的部位,遠勝於加工過的穀類,像是強化麵粉做成的麵包就缺乏這些營養素。

★堅果:少量的果仁不僅可以充飢,更提供鎂和纖維等重要營養成分。胡桃與亞麻籽也飽含Omega-3脂肪酸。

★脫脂牛奶與優格:眾所皆知,乳製品有助於建造骨頭與牙齒。除了鈣,許多強化乳製品是維他命D的優質來源。不少研究指出,維他命D與健康間有相關連。

值得一提的是,美國糖尿病學會強調,食物(特別是水果、蔬菜和全麥)帶給人體健康的好處,幾乎每一天都有新發現;目前並未有明確的研究證明維他命補給品的優勢,因此直接攝取食物以獲取營養素較為實際,而這是那些健康補品所無法取代的。

生活中,有些食物的搭配組合已經是由來已久,其美妙的口味也被人們所接受,習慣上也覺得這些种搭配是順理成章的了。

但從健康的角度講,還是不科學的,健康專家可是有著充足的理由呢!這里給您列出12种被健康專家列為錯誤的菜肴搭配。

如果您很重視健康,還是听從專家們的忠告,別總是傻吃、貪吃。

馬鈴薯燒牛肉
由于馬鈴薯和牛肉在被消化時所需的胃酸的濃度不同,就勢必延長食物在胃中的滯留時間, 從而引起胃腸消化吸收時間的延長,久而久之,必然導致腸胃功能的紊亂。

小蔥拌豆腐
豆腐中的鈣与蔥中的草酸,會結合成白色沉淀物~草酸鈣,同樣造成人体對鈣的吸收困難。

豆漿沖雞蛋
雞蛋中的粘液性蛋白會与豆漿中的胰蛋白結合,從而失去二者應有的營養价值。

茶葉煮雞蛋
茶葉中除生物鹼外,還有酸性物質,這些化合物与雞蛋中的鐵元素結合,對胃有刺激作用,且不利于消化吸收。

炒雞蛋放味精
雞蛋本身含有許多与味精成分相同的谷氨酸,所以炒雞蛋時放味精,不僅增加不了鮮味,反而會破坏和掩蓋雞蛋的天然鮮味。

紅白蘿卜混吃
白蘿卜中的維生素C含量极高,但紅蘿卜中卻含有一种叫抗坏血酸的分解酵素, 它會破坏白蘿卜中的維生素C。一旦紅白蘿卜配合,白蘿卜中的維生素C就會喪失殆盡。不僅如此,在与含維生素C的蔬菜配合烹調時,紅蘿卜都充當了破坏者的角色。還有胡瓜、南瓜等也含有類似紅蘿卜的分解酵素。

蘿卜水果同吃
近年來科學家們發現,蘿卜等十字花科蔬菜進入人體后, 經代謝很快就會產生一种抗甲狀腺的物質~硫氰酸。該物質產生的多少与攝入量成正比。此時,如果攝入含大量植物色素的水果如橘子、梨、苹果、葡萄等,這些水果中的類黃酮物質在腸道被細菌分解, 轉化成羥苯甲酸及阿魏酸,它們可加強硫氰酸抑制甲狀腺的作用,從而誘發或導致甲狀腺腫。

海味与水果同食
海味中的魚、蝦、藻類,含有丰富的蛋白質和鈣等營養物質,如果与含有鞣酸的水果同食,不僅會降低蛋白質的營養价值,且易使海味中的鈣質与鞣酸結合成一种 新的不易消化的物質,這种物質會刺激胃而引起不适,使人出現肚子痛、嘔吐、惡心等症狀。含鞣酸較多的水果有柿子、葡萄、石榴、山楂、青果等。因此這些水果不宜与海味菜同時食用,以間隔兩個小時為宜。

牛奶与橘子同食
剛喝完牛奶就吃橘子,牛奶中的蛋白質就會先与橘子中的果酸和維生素c相遇而凝固成塊, 影響消化吸收,而且還會使人發生腹脹、腹痛、腹瀉等症狀。

酒与胡蘿卜同食
最近,美國食品專家告誡人們:酒与胡蘿卜同食是很危險的。 專家指出,因為胡蘿卜中丰富的?胡蘿卜素与酒精一同進入人体,就會在肝臟中產生毒素,從而引起肝病。特別是在飲用胡蘿卜汁后不要馬上去飲酒。

白酒与汽水同飲
因為白酒、汽水同飲后會很快使酒精在全身揮發,并生產大量的二氧化碳, 對胃、腸、肝、腎等器官有嚴重危害,對心腦血管也有損害。

吃肉時喝茶
有的人在吃肉食、海味等高蛋白食物后,不久就喝茶,以為能幫助消化。殊不知,茶葉中的大量鞣酸与蛋白質結合,會生成具有收斂性的鞣酸蛋白質,使腸蠕動減慢,從而延長糞便在腸道內滯留的時間。既容易形成便秘,又增加有毒和致癌物質被人体吸收的可能性。

三明治+优酪乳=癌症:是否有注意到便利商店的三明治+优酪乳省10元的活動,要小心喔!

三明治中若有培根、醃肉不可和优酪乳一起吃喔!因為培根、香腸、火腿、腊肉等加有硝酸鹽, 用以防止肉毒杆菌生長,避免食物毒,但若和优酪乳、多多、等乳酸飲料一起食用,則硝酸鹽會生成亞硝胺會致癌,所以要小心。

鮮奶加茶會變成劣等蛋白質對身体有害。

據美國《舊金山晚報》報道,在大自然賜予人類的食物中,隱藏著一些線索,告訴我們吃什麼對身體的某些部位有益。這些與人體構造相似度近100%的果蔬,正是大自然賜予我們的天然藥品。

胡蘿蔔

切開的胡蘿蔔就像人的眼睛,有瞳孔、虹膜,以及放射的線條。科學研究表明,大量胡蘿蔔素能促進人體血液流向眼部,保護視力,讓眼睛更明亮。

番茄

番茄有四個腔室,並且是紅色的,這與我們的心臟一樣。實驗證實,番茄飽含番茄紅素,高膽固醇患者要想降低心臟病和中風危險,不妨多吃點。

葡萄

懸挂的一串葡萄具有心髒的形狀,而每一顆葡萄就像紅血球。葡萄汁中含有豐富的多元酚類,能幫助身體對抗心血管疾病。

核桃

蠶豆

芹菜等很多根莖類蔬菜看起來就像人的骨頭,而它們確實能強化骨質。人骨頭中含有23%的鈉,而這些食物也含有23%的鈉。

鱷梨

鱷梨長得很像子宮,能夠保護女性的子宮和子宮頸健康。研究表明,女性每星期吃一個鱷梨,就能平衡雌激素、減掉分娩產生的多餘體重,防止宮頸癌。奇妙的是,鱷梨從開花到成熟結果的生長期,也恰恰是9個月。

無花果

無花果就像男人的睾丸一樣,無花果充滿了籽,而且它們生長時也是成對的。研究表明,無花果可增強男性精子活力,增加精子數量,並治療男子不育症。

甘薯

甘薯看起來像胰腺,事實上,它確實能平衡糖尿病患者的血糖指數。

橄欖

卵巢僅有橄欖大小,但卻是腫瘤最易發生的器官,並且腫瘤的種類也最多,有30多種。多吃橄欖有助於卵巢健康,預防各種卵巢腫瘤。

柑橘

柑橘類水果長得像乳腺,橘子的抗氧化劑含量是所有水果中最高的,含170多種不同的植物化學成分。食用時橘絡不要扔掉,可緩解乳腺增生癥狀。

洋蔥

洋蔥的紋路看上去像人體細胞。研究表明,它能清除身體所有細胞里的垃圾物質和危害性的遊離基。

你兩三年前替我買的中文軟体我終於懂得運用了。兒子由網路上下載了另外一個中文軟体叫"點心",加上你給我的軟体一同操作可是得心應手得多。終於可以寫中文信了。

家裡來的客人是杰仁的女朋友、來了九天左右、大家相處得不錯。她長得甜個性也相當隨和、前天我們四人到市中心去還看到遠處湖邊的彩虹,非常美麗。我認為這是好兆頭。因為他們交往才四個月左右、彼此也要深入地認識,所以還有一段時間才能知道是否合適作考慮終身的伴侶。我願意給他們我的祝福。

道弟我要特別謝謝你為家人做的一切,上次回台為爸的事也有多勞你旅途辛勞了。希望你平曰多注重營養、並祝你新年平安順利快樂!!

Her descendants deeply admire her deeds and make her Role Model of theirs.

聖誕節前給爸媽的一封信 / 蘭生
爸 媽:
時間過得真快,爸媽辭世已屆二及三年。此期間,大部份定居於美國的子女環境因次貸風暴,美國經濟十分衰退。各子女之家庭皆有一些負擔,但在勤儉治家作風下,尚可過關。
二0一0年二月一日蘭生因屆六十五歲,依教師法規應立即退休。所幸,在僑光科技大學服務之六年間,本著 “實在做事、誠懇待人及感恩”之心態下,大兒以:系教師評議委員會全票,管理學院教師評議委員會全票,校教師評議委員會會議全票通過蘭生延長服務一年至2011年1月31日案(按今年八月一日一位65歲同事申請延任,未獲通過,已退休矣)。此份得來不易之小榮耀,皆歸於爸媽庭訓 “己所不欲,勿施與人”之功。
此外,瑞蘭的次子奶旦(Nathan)於今年九月自美國俄亥俄州克里夫蘭市飛至台北國立台灣大學華語訓練班接受華語讀說訓練數月。桂冠長孫於今年八月初離開工作十年之荷蘭菲利浦高雄廠赴台灣日月光半導體公司中國蘇州工業區半導體工廠擔任總廠長之職,目前與你的孫媳婦吳媛琳及曾孫郭繁傑(即將屆四歲)定居於中國蘇州高級住宅區,其樂也融融。
時值耶誕節即臨,蘭生與六位子女、眾孫們及曾孫繁傑虔誠祝爸媽在天之靈永享主賜之恩典。

The study ways of current Taiwanese college students
I confessed that I am unable of tolerating students chatting away in the back of my classrooms. Unluckily, the legislative of Taiwan is internationally known for its blatant personal attacks and free talk for alls, involving destruction of public property and verbal and at times physical abuse by both men and women officials. In this way, how we adults teach our youth? I do believe such behaviour appears to be culturally related. College students acting in a rude way,
Taiwanese culture says it is “OK”, goes the view. But, atlas, acting like that is rude in my eyes. Recently, the world has received a compelling and disturbing portrait of the meaning of “public courtesy” in Taiwan today.

If I Were Santa

If I were Santa, I would give all my countless love/hugs to my passed mother, who has done so much for me.
In addition, I would give wisdom to my family members and dear friends. If they had wisdom, they would know how to keep healthy, how to make lots of money, and how to deal with difficulties.
I think the best present/gift is something related to the mind. Determination and perseverance would be best. I wish I could give my dear friends time. They are quite busy for their daily job. They should have time to sleep, relax, and to relish the tranquility of sleep instead of all their busy life.
Even though we've grown older, this wish is sincere:

Know the Symptoms of a Heart Attack

The symptoms are:
An uncomfortable feeling in your chest - Heaviness, Pressure, Tightness and A squeezing sensation.
It can spread to your left arm, sometimes to both arms and to your neck and jaw. You may also get sweaty, feel like vomiting and have trouble breathing.
Heart Attack is an equal opportunity killer: Women may not necessarily have crushing chest pain with their heart attacks. Their heart attack pain may be in their stomach or jaw. Sometimes their heart attack symptoms may be nausea, indigestion, shortness of breath or extreme fatigue without any pain.
If you have any of these symptoms, don't delay. Go to the nearest hospital emergency room, or call 911 if you're too sick to go on your own. Do it right away! New treatments can save you life and help you recover. But you must act quickly. The quicker you act the better your chances. every minute counts.

(9) Love: Love is any of a number of emotions and experiences related to a sense of strong affection and attachment. Everybody needs to love and cherish society, then society will be full of warm feelings.
(10) World Peace: World peace is an ideal of freedom, peace, and happiness among and within all nations and/or peoples. If everybody has the same religious belief, then there will be a common goal in the life.
